Athletics: McEvilly makes mark with medal treble at Kelvin Hall

High School of Glasgow pupil Eilidh McEvilly won three medals at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships in the Kelvin Hall last week. Competing in the under-16 girls' section, she won gold in the 60m hurdles, silver in the shot and bronze in the high jump.

Lenzie Academy's Chloe Lambert and Tom Holligan from Firhill High School were double gold winners at the two-day event. Lambert won the under-18 60m and 200m for girls, with Holligan coming out on top in the same two events for boys.

Three event records were broken; Fraser O'Rourke of Hutchesons' Grammar clearing 3.61m in the boys' under-16 pole vault, Jax Thoirs of Jordanhill School clearing 4.65m in the under-18 event and Shawlands Academy's Ahmed Sharif running 3m 13s to win the boys' under-16 1500m. Edmund Reid of Falkirk High School won the Jack Sutherland Trophy for the most meritorious performance in the shot, recording 14.59m in the under-18 boys.

The next big event is the Secondary Cross Country Championships at Irvine on Saturday, 12 March.
