Athletics: Jessica Ennis ‘very happy’ with long jump win

Jessica Ennis continued her preparations for this summer’s Olympics with victory in the long jump at the Bedford International Games.

The 26-year-old European heptathlon champion jumped 6.40 metres yesterday to take the triumph ahead of Dominique Blaize (6.39m.)

Ennis, who broke the British heptathlon record in Gotzis recently, also competed in the javelin, where she threw 46.34m to finish eighth in an event won by Laura Whittingham (54.25).

Ennis said: “I was very happy to get a 6.40 in the long jump. I had a few no-jumps, but very happy with the way my jumping is going at the moment and then in the javelin I had a good solid throw, which is what I need within the heptathlon, so it’s been a good day.”
