Athletics: Gibson and Sharp set for Scots duel south of Border

Scotland's leading female 800 metres runners Claire Gibson (Kilbarchan) and Lynsey Sharp (Edinburgh AC) will clash tomorrow for the first time this season in a race to whet the appetite - but sadly Scottish fans will not get to see it on their own patch as it is in Watford.

The pair line up in the A race at another British Milers Club meeting, a series which has done so much to promote the cause of British middle-distance running.

The venues however are all south of the Border.

Gibson, who ran in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi last October, leads the Scottish rankings so far with a time of 2:04.18, while Sharp, who was a Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medallist in Pune in 2008, has clocked 2:06.16 this season, compared to her best of 2:04.44 set three years ago. The men's 800m at Watford will feature Guy Learmonth (Lasswade), who will be anxious to shake off the disappointment of his poor run in Belgium last Saturday while former Scottish 800 champion Mark Mitchell has another outing in the 1500m, an event he failed to finish in at a previous BMC meeting.
