Athletics: Edinburgh's athletes run away with it

Team Edinburgh scored a runaway victory in the final meeting of the National Junior (Under-20) Athletics League Northern Premier Division at Scotstoun and have again qualified for the UK final at Derby on 12 September.

They totalled 525 points on the day to finish well clear of Team Glasgow (493) with Sale third (381), Forth Valley fifth (354) and Kingdom of Fife seventh (309) and were more than 100 points clear of Team Glasgow overall.

Top individual marks included a 100 metres win by Allan Hamilton in a personal best of 10.84 seconds, a 400m win for Greg Loudon in 49.20 — with an outstanding relay split of 47.4 for the Edinburgh 4 x 400 relay team — and a fine double by Ross Matheson in the 800m (1:56.89) and 1,500m (4:07.76).

Emily Stewart won the 1,500m in 4:31.73, Kimberley Reed the hammer (45.95 metres), Emma Nuttall the high jump (1.70m) and Sarah Warnock (5.92m) and Fay Nicholson (5.79) wrapped up the A and B long jumps.
