Athletics: 2014 quartet in squad for Cardiff event

Four of the Scottishathletics Commonwealth Squad will head to Wales next month for the Celtic Nations Cross Country international.

Neil Gourley and female trio Beth Potter, Emily Stewart and Laura Muir have all been picked to represent Scotland in Cardiff. And they will be joined by GB international hill runner, Robbie Simpson, and Scottish 4k champion and GB Junior international, Rhona Auckland, for the event on Sunday 20 January.

With IAAF age groups in operation for the event, the under-20 teams feature call-ups for the likes of Inverclyde AC’s Jonathan Glen and Catriona Graves of Garscube Harriers – who are both still 16.

Simpson, second in the East District Champs in Cupar earlier this month, leads a Scotland Men’s under-23 selection 
bolstered by West under-20 champion David Vernon of 
Victoria Park-Glasgow, GB Junior Luke Traynor of Giffnock North and Central AC’s Alex Hendry.
