Arniston Rangers 0-3 Arthurlie: Plucky Arniston outplayed as Arthurlie go through

ARTHURLIE reached the third round of The Scottish Junior Cup with a deserved victory over Arniston Rangers.

The visitors were rewarded for their early pressure on 13 minutes when Steven Crawford netted the opener. Dennis McLaughlin rode a few challenges inside the area before slipping the ball into the path of Crawford and he stroked the ball past Mark Weir.

Two minutes later, McLaughlin missed an open goal after being set up by John Paul Boyle. Arniston refused to lie down and Gary Cennerazzo tried his luck from distance on 26 minutes but his effort flew over the bar. However, Arthurlie went close again on the stroke of half-time when a thunderous Boyle drive went inches wide of the post.

The second goal of the afternoon came on 57 minutes when Boyle delivered a cross to the back post that was met by John McLay, and he connected with a sweet strike which Weir was unable to keep out.

John Johnston saw two efforts well saved by Weir soon after, but Arthurlie's victory was sealed in the dying minutes when substitute Anthony McParland finished from a tight angle despite the best efforts of Arniston's Blair Tolmie to clear the ball away from danger.
