Arniston boss wants boys to become men

ARNISTON boss Jackie Myles is hoping to see some of his young players mature into men during the final few weeks of the season.

"We've got a good squad of players here but, with young boys, I think you can sometimes turn to that too easily when you are looking for excuses," he said.

"They've got to grow into men sometime and I'm hoping that can happen here so we can start getting a bit more consistency.

"Most of the players have been Seniors, so there's no doubting the fact they've got the ability."

Myles, back at Arniston for a second spell in charge following the departure of Brian MacNaughton earlier in the season, described results so far as "a mixed bag".

"After losing 1-0 to St Andrews in my first game, we then didn't turn up against Whitburn," he added. "And, although we beat Kinnoull 1-0, I didn't feel we played particularly well."

After 12 games, Arniston are seventh in the table, 14 points behind leaders Broxburn but ten points clear of Thornton Hibs at the bottom of the pile.

"The results last weekend (Penicuik, Armadale and Whitburn all lost) helped us big time, giving us a bit of breathing space," added Myles. "Realistically, we are looking to finish in the top half of the table and then sit down and see what's going to happen with players at the end of the season."

In tomorrow's other games, Broxburn will be looking to make the most of Glenrothes being on Scottish Cup duty when the leaders entertain Broughty Athletic.

Penicuik are at home to Armadale, while Whitburn will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to Fife to take on Thornton Hibs.
