Annan hold firm against Livingston

ANNAN Athletic have moved into the category of play-off contenders after holding the strong favourites for the Third Division, Livingston, to a goalless draw at Galabank to make it six games without defeat for Harry Cairney's side.

Mike Jack for Annan and the visiting Keaghan Jacobs threatened to score early with Gary Bollan looking to swing things the way of the Almondvale men with the half-time introduction of veteran striker Jim Hamilton for defender Jason Talbot.

There was no way through the Black and Gold rearguard, however, with Raffaele De Vita having the best chance of the second half blocked by Chris Jardine right at the death. The Lions had to settle for extending their lead to 11 points over second-placed East Stirling who are in action tonight.

It took a long time to come, but when Montrose's first home league win of the season arrived it was a spectacular one as Forfar were seen off 4-0 at Links Park. Youngster Aaron Sinclair nodded in midway through the first half before Steven Tweed's side had Chris Hegarty dismissed for the second time in four games.

John Gemmell shot home to double the Links Park side's lead right on half time, with Fraser Milligan scoring from distance to make it three before Gemmell struck for the ten men again to make it four defeats in a row for Dick Campbell's side.

Elgin City's long journey home from Stranraer became an even longer one when Stair Park substitute Ray Montgomerie fired home to make it 2-1 for the home side just four minutes from time.

Former Stair Park striker Craig Frizzel nodded Elgin in front on 21 minutes only for French defender Ronald Bouadji to level following a Scott Agnew corner in the first half. Montgomerie fired home just two minutes after coming on to grab the win.
