Annan Athletic v Brechin City: Annan fired up to earn joust with neighbours

Annan have known for several weeks that the prize for victory in tonight's third-round replay is a first-ever senior meeting with near neighbours Queen of the South in Saturday's fourth round. Their manager Harry Cairney said: "A match with Queen of the South would be great for this club and the area so we will be going all out to get it."

"We could have won this tie in the first game and despite having only had one bounce game since then we know that we have it in us to beat Brechin."

The Galabank side will be without on-loan Queen of the South striker Sean O'Connor as the Palmerston club refused permission for the experienced front man to play, but David Cox can feature despite a two-game league ban.

Brechin City are so short of players that Glebe Park manager Jim Weir will have to promote a member of the club's youth set-up to ensure 16 players make the trip. Weir said: "We are a wee bit short of numbers at the moment which is disappointing for such a finely balanced cup-tie. We need to play better than we did in the first game, but I am hoping we take off where we left off at Peterhead where we scored five."

Defender Gerry McLaughlan and midfielder Charlie King are ruled out through injury with Weir's squad depleted further by Hibs full back Callum Booth returning to Easter Road at the end of his loan spell.

Beith v Airdrie United

Junior side Beith are hoping that their Bellsdale pitch will finally be playable for this replay, originally scheduled for 27 November.

Club secretary John Boal said: "We have spent a considerable amount of money trying to get this game on and hopefully we can get a good crowd to help re-coup some of that cost."

The West Region Junior champions are without defender Mark McShane through suspension following his sending-off when the clubs drew 2-2 in their first attempt to settle the tie.

Having seen his side go two up in the first game, manager John Millar, said: "We know we can score against Airdrie but we have lost the element of surprise so we need to get back to how we played in that game quickly."

Airdrie United include midfielder Ryan McCord and striker Scott Gemmill, who missed the first tie through injury, but cannot call upon Andy Ferguson as he was not signed in time for the original match. Captain Paul Lovering is available despite a league ban.

Manager Jimmy Boyle who said, "We need to play a lot better than we did first time out to go through."
