Angling: Tweeddale proves tops

Only a handful of anglers were on site when I arrived at Tweeddale Millennium Trout Fishery.

Bright sun and a mirror-like surface to the water greeted me. Fish were on the surface and splashing so I opted to put on the floating line and dries. After an hour or so with only limited success, I decided on a move to the Dam wall. Donning an intermediate line with a single Black Tadpole Lure brought an instant take. Not big by any standards but a fish nonetheless.

I always like to move about on Bank Fisheries covering new water and more fish. With limited success, I ventured to the furthest point on the middle pond as several Damsels were hatching.

I switched the Tadpole for a Hothead Damsel and within two casts connected into a 3lb+ Rainbow. In the next hour or so this was followed up by a further four fish. One of which was a cracking brown trout of over 2lb.

On my return to the Lodge, fish were still breaking the surface. However, the majority of fish being caught were only two to three foot sub-surface. One thing you can say for Tweeddale is there is always a good quality and quantity of fish. It had been some time since my last visit but rest assured it won't be long till my next.
