Andy Murray's 'triple bagel' gets Britain back level

ANDY Murray took less than an hour to haul Great Britain level in their Davis Cup clash with Luxembourg by sweeping aside Laurent Bram without the loss of a game last night.

The Scot took just 51 minutes to tie the Europe/Africa Zone Group II tie at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 victory - the rare 'triple bagel' - following James Ward's opening straight sets defeat to Gilles Muller at Braehead Arena.

Bram, a 27-year-old coach at a tennis club in Luxembourg, was out of his depth as Murray treated his home crowd in Glasgow to a one-sided demolition. The world No 4 dropped just 15 points and only one service point in the first two sets.

Murray will next join with brother Jamie in the doubles today before aiming to secure a promotion play-off against Belarus or Hungary when he takes on Muller tomorrow.

Unfortunately for Bram, he will again face the British No 1 today alongside Mike Vermeer.

A clean sweep looked on the cards from the first game, which Murray won to love with the help of two aces, the second of which owed more to his opponents' fresh-air swipe than the power of the serve.

Murray soon broke, and repeated the feat thanks to a double fault, before losing the first point on his serve in the fifth game when he put a drop shot into the net.

Another Bram double fault handed Murray the set in 16 minutes with the loss of five points and the next set followed in just 15 minutes with Murray enjoying a perfect service set.

Incredibly, the Scot started the third set with two double faults, but soon set up three points for the rubber and tried to finish with a flourish but over-hit an ambitious return.

Bram delayed the inevitable with a drop shot of his own but Murray immediately emulated the shot to wrap up victory.
