Alloa drop two points but stay top

ALLOA Athletic manager Allan Maitland achieved his wish of leaving Cowdenbeath with his team still top of the table, however he may well be feeling disappointed after they lost a late goal in a 1-1 draw.

The Wasps went ahead when Brown Ferguson opened the scoring in 53 minutes with a powerful finish from the edge of the box and it looked like the three points were heading to Clackmannanshire until substitute John Dempster netted from close in with six minutes to go for the Fifers. The visitors' Andy Scott was dismissed in the aftermath of the goal.

Stirling Albion moved back into third place thanks a 2-0 win over Peterhead at Forthbank where David McKenna netted in 62 minutes when he headed home. The Blue Toon's young defender Cameron Bowden scored an own goal net 15 minutes later to seal the fate of Neale Cooper's side that drop to eighth place in the table.

East Fife came from behind in their vital match with Arbroath to win 3-1 and move six points away from the relegation play-off spot. Steve Hislop had given the visitors the lead after only six minutes when he knocked the ball in from within the six yard box for Jamie McCunnie to equalise before half time.

On-loan Falkirk youngster Stewart Murdoch shot the Fifers ahead from the edge of the box with quarter of an hour left and McCunnie sealed the win on 81 minutes.

Dumbarton got themselves back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Clyde at Broadwood with recent signing David Winters breaking the deadlock in 27 minutes when he shot home from 14 yards.

Winters fired home a second with just over an hour played to pile on more misery for the bottom placed side who are beginning to look slightly marooned as they remain ten points away from ninth placed Arbroath.
