Alloa bring in experienced Brian Kerr

Third Division champions Arbroath have brought in former Hibs player and Scotland internationalist Brian Kerr to the club to bolster their squad for life in the Second Division.

The 29-year-old three-times capped player started his career at Newcastle United before he moved north to join Motherwell.

Kerr then played for Hibs, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee, but has been out of the game since last October after being made redundant when the Dens Park club entered administration.

Kerr kept fit by training at Queen of the South until the end of last season, and his new Gayfield manager Paul Sheerin said: "I am delighted to bring such an experienced player to Arbroath. I am sure he will be a huge asset to us in the Second Division."

Meanwhile, Alloa Athletic manager Paul Hartley has appointed former Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Dundee and Morton midfielder Darren Young as club captain at Recreation Park. The 32-year-old is a former Aberdeen captain, and Hartley sees him as the perfect man to lead his new-look squad.

Hartley said: "Darren is not only our most experienced player, he is a good leader. He will captain the side this season."

l Morton look set to firm up their interest in one-time West Bromwich Albion midfielder Josh Knight if the 20-year-old impresses in their pre-season friendly against Motherwell tomorrow night.

Knight played in a bounce game against Hibs last week and the Cappielow management team of Allan Moore and Mark McNally want to see him in action against Stuart McCall's men before making a final decision.

The Welsh under-21 cap played in the reserves at West Brom before moving back home to join Port Talbot Town.
