All-Stars turn out for Lucas

AN all-stars select team will grace Whitestone Park in Peebles this Saturday, for the Alec Lucas Memorial Football Tournament and Family Fun Day.

Gary Mackay, Dave Bowman, Scott Crabbe, Ray McKinnon and Darren Jackson are amongst those who will take to the field to support this cause.

This is the second year of the Tournament held in memory of 45 Commando Royal Marine, Alec Lucas, who lived in Peebles with his fiancee and young daughter. Alec was killed in action in Afghanistan on 24 November 2008, aged 24. He was a keen and dedicated footballer and played for Edinburgh team Dalmore and local sides, Tweeddale Rovers, Peebles Rovers, Leithen Rovers and Vale of Leithen.

The action kicks off at 11.00am with 16 teams competing for the coveted Alec Lucas Memorial trophy. In addition to the All-Stars select and sides representing the local football teams, the Royal Marines will be fielding teams from Arbroath, Chester and Portsmouth.
