All of the comings and goings in SPL with the transfer window in full swing

RANGERS.IN: No-one.

OUT: A lot of possibles, from Kris Boyd to Jerome Rothen. There has also been talk of Pedro Mendes moving back to Portugal.

WHAT THEY NEED: Surprisingly for a side nine points clear at the top of the league, quite a lot. An artful midfielder in the mould of a (young) Barry Ferguson, while defensive cover for David Weir, Madjid Bougherra and the inexperienced Danny Wilson. But most pressing of all is the need for a striker – preferably in time for this weekend, given the extent of Walter Smith's problems in that area due to injuries.

CELTIC.

IN: Jos Hooiveld from AIK Solna, Thomas Rogne from Stabaek.

OUT: Barry Robson, Willo Flood, Chris Killen, all to Middlesbrough. Gary Caldwell to Wigan Athletic.

LINKED WITH: Arsenal's Phillipe Senderos, Sean St Ledger from Preston North End and Tottenham Hotspur's Robbie Keane. Even Dundee United's Garry Kenneth has been mentioned.

WHAT THEY NEED? Assistant manager Mark Venus admitted earlier this week the club has problems at the back and up front. Fans will agree – and might add a central midfielder to the shopping list, with Scott Brown still absent through injury.

DUNDEE UNITED.

IN: No-one, though Dusan Pernis did join just prior to the transfer window opening after he was released early by MSK Zilina.

OUT: No-one, but striker Danny Cadamarteri was reported to be interesting two clubs in Greece.

LINKED WITH: The current financial difficulties faced by the club, combined with the continued search for a manager, has meant squad-strengthening is not high on the list of priorities.

WHAT THEY NEED? With Lee Wilkie still battling for fitness, another centre-half might be appreciated by the Tannadice faithful. Injuries have also reduced their options in attack, with Fran Sandaza and Cadamarteri out injured.

HIBERNIAN.

IN: Graeme Smith, from Brighton & Hove Albion.

OUT: No-one

LINKED WITH: Alan Gow and Mark Brown, from Plymouth and Kilmarnock respectively. But John Hughes has scoffed at both these suggestions. Darren Barr is, however, on Hibs' radar but he has yet to decide on his next move.

WHAT THEY NEED? Don't share Hearts' problems in attack, but could do with a midfield enforcer. A common complaint from fans has been the lack of height and power in the middle of the park. Sol Bamba fitted the bill, but he is required in defence. So perhaps another solution is buying a centre-half, thus allowing Bamba to add presence to the midfield.

MOTHERWELL.

IN: No-one, but one un-named player is on trial at present.

OUT: A decision has still to be made on whether to retain the services of loan pair John Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz from Everton. Jim O'Brien, an Aberdeen target, looks likely to stay until the end of the season.

LINKED WITH: Craig Brown, the current interim manager, has been fielding calls from every agent in the land, he says.

WHAT THEY NEED? According to fans, an experienced centre-half.

ABERDEEN.

IN: Paul Marshall joined from Manchester City

OUT: Maurice Ross to Chinese club Beijing Guoan, Jonathan Crawford on loan to Peterhead.

LINKED WITH: Plymouth striker Steven MacLean and Swansea forward Stephen Dobbie. Also Falkirk defender Darren Barr and Motherwell winger Jim O'Brien.

WHAT THEY DO NEED: A goalscoring striker is a must. Aberdeen have only scored 13 SPL goals all season. A centre-half (such as Barr) is also important following the news that Andrew Considine is out for the season. Zander Diamond is coming back from a lengthy lay-off but cover is needed.

HEARTS.

IN: No-one

OUT: No-one – yet. But rumours continue to circulate about Lee Wallace.

LINKED WITH: Izale McLeod and Steven MacLean both trained with the club, but the board declined to sanction their on-loan moves. Former midfielder Bruno Aguiar has also been rumoured to be set for a return to Tynecastle. And one of the clubs given permission to speak with Barr.

WHAT THEY DO NEED? Csaba Laszlo knows it, the fans know it the girl serving soup at Jemima's Pantry in Gorgie probably knows it. But the striker so desperately needed remains no more than names on the manager's wish-list which Vladimir Romanov seems so determined to ignore.

ST MIRREN.

IN: No-one.

OUT: Stephen McGinn – a 100,000 capture by Watford. Andy Dorman also linked with a move to the Championship club.

LINKED WITH: Money is tight, so speculation has been limited.

WHAT THEY NEED? A left-back, with Mo Camara out of favour and David Barron – a right-back – forced to fill in. Also a reliable striker and creative midfielder.

ST JOHNSTONE.

IN: Cillian Sheridan, on loan from Celtic.

OUT: Jonatan Johansson – short-term deal was not renewed.

LINKED WITH: Former Rangers centre-half Craig Moore, but he went to Greek club Kavala instead. Also have Slovakian defender Roman Konecny on trial.

WHAT THEY NEED? Derek McInnes is keen to add a defender to his squad. This is unsurprising since the club have conceded the highest tally of goals in the SPL.

HAMILTON ACCIES.

IN: Mickael Antoine-Curier's loan deal from Dundee has been extended. Former Motherwell and Hull City winger Stuart Elliott also brought in until the end of this season, after being released from Doncaster.

OUT: Leon Knight to Queen of the South.

LINKED WITH: No-one.

WHAT THEY NEED? On the evidence of three recent matches against SPL leaders Rangers, manager Billy Reid does not need to add too much to a team that is clearly well-drilled. Elliott has been signed to take the goal-scoring pressure off Antoine-Curier.

KILMARNOCK.

IN: No-one, but manager Jimmy Calderwood is just in the door.

OUT: No-one.

LINKED WITH: Calderwood has extensive contacts in England and abroad. Favours versatile players.

WHAT THEY NEED: Where do you start? But high on the wish-list is a striker to take the heat off Kevin Kyle. But, unfortunately, Calderwood has been warned there is nothing left in the kitty.

FALKIRK.

IN: Jack Compton from Weston-super-Mare, Colin Healy on loan from Ipswich and striker Enoch Showunmi from Leeds United.

OUT: Dermot McCaffrey released. Brian Allison – on loan to Stirling. Chris Mitchell loaned to Ayr.

LINKED WITH:Eddie May seems content with deals already done.

WHAT THEY NEED: May hopes to have already found what Falkirk need to lift them from the basement of the SPL – a robust target man, with an eye for goal. At 6ft 5in, Showunmi should prove a handful for defenders.
