All Black Macdonald confirms retirement

FORMER All Blacks full-back Leon MacDonald has announced his retirement from all rugby after suffering the most recent of a series of concussions which have affected his career.

MacDonald, 32, suffered a concussion while playing for his Japanese club side Kitetsu in a preseason match last year and decided he could not continue and risk further and possibly long-term injury. He retires as the third most-capped All Blacks fullback with 56 Tests after Mils Muliaina with 82 and Christian Cullen with 58. MacDonald also played 127 matches in Super rugby, most with Canterbury.
