The ambitious npower League Two outfit are poised to offer the Tangerines talisman a pre-contract deal for next season.

Dubliner Daly is out of contract in the summer so is now free to speak to other clubs as he weighs up his future.

Daly has yet to sign a new deal with the Tannadice club, but won’t be short of admirers and could find himself heading south at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old Irishman has been an inspiration for United in recent years, helping them lift the Scottish Cup in 2010, and has also dropped back from attack to turn out in defence to help out the Arabs.

United manager Peter Houston wants to hang on to his captain, but new Fleetwood boss and former Scotland 
international Graham Alexander has cash to spend and hopes to lure his top January target down south.

Daly joined United from Hartlepool in 2007 and has made over 150 appearances for the club despite battling back from two serious knee injuries.

Fleetwood recently had former Rangers and Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson on loan from Blackpool and have big plans for the future.
