Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic earn top awards for buoyant United

Manchester United have claimed an awards double with Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic being awarded the Barclays Manager and Player of the Season honours.

Ferguson has led United to their 12th Premier League title, and 19th English league success overall, plus the Champions League final. Centre-back Vidic has been the key cog in United's defence and has made more league starts than any other Old Trafford player during the campaign.

Ferguson, 69, lands the top manager award for a ninth time, while 29-year-old Vidic has now been named player of the season twice in his United career.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola wants his players to treat their upcoming Champions League final against United as though it is their last - even though the Catalan giants have now reached this stage of the competition three times in the last six years.

Guardiola, who was part of the Barca team that won the European Cup almost two decades ago, is determined not to see any complacency creep in.

He said: "In 1992 we thought that we would never play a final again. I want my players to feel the same. We cannot waste this. We need to be conscious of how hard it is to get there."
