And during the summer’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games he was director of the Achieve 2014 programme, designed to give aspiring Scottish athletes and coaches across 21 sports the opportunity to experience a multi-sport event from the inside.

Lynn, quoted on swimming.org, said: “Scottish Swimming is on a real high after another successful Commonwealth Games and to have the chance to work with the swimmers and coaches in this role is a real honour.

“We have some established performers and some outstanding potential to look out for in the next few years.

“I plan to support the excellent performance environments already in place and challenge our swimmers and coaches to make the gains necessary for even greater success.”

Scotland secured a total of 10 swimming medals in Glasgow.
