Aidan O’Brien rules again at Chester

The master of Ballydoyle had saddled three of the last six winners of the recognised Derby trial in Soldier Of Fortune (2007), Golden Sword (2009) and Treasure Beach (2011) and his latest candidate was a 10-11 favourite off the back of a Curragh maiden victory a month ago.

Ruler Of The World tracked the early pace set by Mister Impatience, but took over from the home turn and soon stamped his authority on the Group 3 contest. Once Moore picked up his whip, his mount lengthened quite impressively to pass the post with six lengths in hand.

Mister Impatience was clear second best, ahead of Havana Beat and Feel Like Dancing. Moore said: “He did it nicely. The race worked out well for him as he got a nice lead. He’ll learn a lot. Going round here will have done him good.”

Kieren Fallon claimed one of the Chester May meeting’s features for the second day in a row when Danadana recovered from a seemingly hopeless position in the Stella Artois Huxley Stakes. The six-times champion jockey has been finding himself in demand again at the age of 48 and has always ridden the Roodee well, demonstrated by the way he forged Banoffee up the inside rail in Tuesday’s Cheshire Oaks.

Danadana made large strides in handicaps last season but a Group 3 looked a level too far around the first bend, when Luca Cumani’s 100-30 favourite became detached at the back of the field, before Fallon started to get some response and moved back into contention.

Pulled wide with a furlong remaining, he charged past the leader Highland Knight and passed the post a comfortable three-quarters of a length in front. “In the last ten days things have really picked up,” said Fallon. “I’m not doing anything different, I’m just getting the rides.”

There’s action at Hamilton this evening and Michael Dods is hoping for conditions to remain on the soft side to enhance the chances of Le Chat d’Or in the feature race. The Darlington raider, who went close over course and distance in heavy ground last August, is one of the ten runners declared for the thomson.co.uk Handicap. Dods said: “A mile is his best trip but we were struggling to find suitable races with soft ground. He was only beaten a nose at Newcastle last time and he was a close second at Hamilton over 9f. The more cut, the better he will run and he’s in good form.”

The first Scottish evening meeting of the year also sees the return of trainer Ian Semple, who now operates from the Haddington yard formerly occupied by George Foster .

Semple, assisted by former champion apprentice Lee Newman, saddles Pastoral Grey in the Thomson Open Maiden Stakes and Lochluichart in the Thomson Claiming Stakes.
