Win tickets to see Del Amitri live at the Usher Hall Edinburgh, plus enjoy a meal at Fazenda
What’s better than a night out with friends, a belter of a concert, and a fabulous meal for six? The chance to win it all for as little as a penny!
One lucky reader is going to enjoy an amazing pre-Christmas night out, thanks to The Scotsman’s charity partnership with Cyrenians.
The Edinburgh-based charity supports people who are homeless in the city, and has partnered with the national newspaper to help raise much needed funds.
The jewel in the fundraising crown this December is the chance to win an unforgettable night out in our reverse auction.
Up for grabs for one lucky winner are six tickets to see Del Amitri at the Usher Hall on December 20. The iconic Scottish group, behind hits like Nothing Ever Happens, Always the Last to Know and Kiss This Thing Goodbye, have been wowing audiences since the 1980s. They are playing five nights in Scotland pre-Christmas, but only one is taking place in the heart of the capital.
The lucky winner will also enjoy a table for six at Fazenda on George Street, with a complimentary bottle of bubbles, pre show. This Brazilian steakhouse and grill gets rave reviews, and is the perfect festive treat.
How a reverse auction works
You enter by texting your auction bid to the premium rate number – messages cost £1.50, plus the standard network rate – all you have to do is try to bid the lowest amount possible that nobody else has suggested.
Choose a bid amount which you think might be the lowest unique bid. You can pick a bid amount from as little as 1p (0.01) to as much as £1000.00 (1000.00).
If nobody bids lower, then you win! If you want to gamble on a one penny entry you can, but be warned, plenty of others might do the same. The challenge is in finding a low unique price point, and if you are the only bidder at that value, the prize, worth over £500, is yours.
Even better, while every entry costs £1.50 – and helps a very good cause – you only pay your actual bid amount if you win the reverse auction.
And even if you aren’t lucky enough to be the winner, your entry fee will help the vital work Cyrenians do in Edinburgh all year round.
How to enter
Place your bid by sending a text message which must start with DEL followed by a space and then your bid in decimals. For example, if you choose a bid of £1.34 your message would be DEL 1.34 or, if your bid is 34p send DEL 0.34
Send this message to 88833. Texts cost £1.50 each plus your standard network rate.
You’ll receive a message back telling you whether your bid has been successful. That means you’ll know right away whether your bid is the lowest unique bid or unique but not the lowest bid.
If you hold the lowest unique bid and somebody bids lower, you will be informed that you no longer hold the lowest bid.
If you hold the lowest bid and somebody bids the same amount, you will be informed that you no longer hold the lowest bid.
The person with the lowest unique bid of all the bids registered when the auction closes will win the prize on offer. They are then obliged to pay the amount they bid for the prize.

Full reverse auction T&Cs
Bidding is open on 04/12/2024 and runs until 23:59 12/12/2024.
Texts are charged at £1.50 plus standard network rate.
All proceeds (minus processing fees) will go to Cyrenians. Cyrenians is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), registered charity SC011052.
Entrants must be 18 or over and the auction is open to UK residents only.
Bids must not be lower than 0.01. A decimal place must be entered for the bid to be recognized, ie a bid of £5.17 is entered as DEL 5.17 and sent to 88833. Minimum bid is 0.01, maximum bid is 1000.00.
The lowest unique bid received by 23:59 12/12/2024 will be deemed the winner of the auction. There will be one winner.
If there is not one single lowest unique bid at the close of the auction then the entrant who placed the first of the identical bid amounts (at the lowest bid amount with the least bids against it) will be deemed successful
While each game is open, all bids are kept secret, although bidders may be told during the course of each game whether or not their bid is unique at the time of the bid, or if it ceases to be unique at a later time.
The lowest unique bid by the end of the promotion must buy the prize offered at that bid price.
The prize is 6 tickets for Del Amitri at Usher Hall on 20 Dec 2024 (value £300) with Full Churrasco Dining Experience for 6 beforehand in the private dining room at Fazenda (value £323.40). Travel and accommodation costs are not included. The successful bidder will be contacted on 13/12/2024 for the prize to be sent via email.
If you enter the competition, we may send you SMS marketing messages relating to the auction. If you do not wish to receive these messages there will be an opportunity to opt out.
