What’s on: The finest performance work comes to 2024 Edinburgh Fringe from Denmark as #DANISH returns

The finest performance work from Denmark comes to Edinburgh Fringe 2024 as #DANISH returns for a fourth season, after critical acclaim run last year.
Four exceptional companies are bringing their work to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024 as part of this year’s #Danish showcase.
These shows are an opportunity for audiences to experience artists at their exhilarating best. Three dance shows and a queer cabaret have been selected to perform at the world’s biggest arts festival this August for international audiences and industry.
#DANISH presents four productions as part of the official selection of Danish companies performing at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024, promoting Danish performing arts of high artistic quality internationally. It is presented in a collaboration by founding producer WILDTOPIA and The Embassy of Denmark in the UK – supported by The Danish Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs.

The #DANISH showcase welcomes the return of DON GNU and Granhøj Dans who this year are joined by Fringe debutants Down The Rabbit Hole Theatre and Next Zone.
Transhumanist by Next Zone is a popping duet that unfolds the two male dancers in a new and captivating universe. In this liminal space the boundaries between human and artificial dissolve forging an entrance to another reality.

DON GNU are returning with Tennis which sees the founding creative directors of the company grabbing their racquets and taking to the stage.
Granhøj Dans are returning with This is Not Romeo & Juliet a powerful performance exploring love in times of war in Europe, transcending the classic Romeo & Juliet narrative, exploring themes of love and death and the complexity of human relations.
And Down The Rabbit Hole Theatre is making its Fringe debut with a Latin American influenced exploration of being queer, burlesque, music and dancing; The Disappeared.

The Danish cultural attaché Lone Britt Christensen at the Danish Embassy in London has followed the work behind #DANISH since 2018.
I have been impressed by the profile #DANISH has achieved at the Edinburgh Fringe and that the quality of the performances has been top notch. It's not a given that we will succeed in getting attention in the theatre mecca that the Edinburgh Fringe really is, so it's fantastic that we have the opportunity to continue this strong #DANISH brand for the companies participating in 2024. It can only help to strengthen Danish performing arts internationally.
Karen Toftegaard, Danish arts entrepreneur and founding producer of #DANISH said: “Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the place where human beings from all over the world can unite through art experiences – even though the world is burning. Art can help you to get to know yourself, other people different from yourself and the world you are a part of. All the Danish works emanate this.”
