Take a 12-day journey across Uganda, exploring authentic African cultures, experiencing iconic wildlife and being the first to be hosted by coffee growing communities at the foothills of the Rwenzori.
Ullapool-based ethical travel company Nomadic Skies has added an exciting new adventure to its unique experiences, journeying across the stunning landscape of equatorial western Uganda.
From the highlands and shores of the last locally owned island of beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, spot birdlife and otters before travelling by private boat down the Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The area is populated with big game that come down to drink in the afternoon heat, from elephants, buffalo and hippos to crocodiles which you can see up close from a boat.
A local guide will lead you to a gorge to track and view chimpanzees. You will stay beside the lush, forested crater lake of Nkuruba Nature Reserve, a sanctuary for primates and monkeys.
For coffee lovers
Offering unique and meaningful adventures, you know you are in safe hands with Nomadic Skies while immersing yourself in spectacular scenery. The journey will be led by Nomadic Skies’ founder Gavin Anderson who has worked on development projects in Uganda for over 25 years and lived in Uganda for 9 years. Dipping your toe into their travel experiences means discovering whole new cultures where the warmth of local people in remote locations shines through.
That is why this latest adventure will also be the first time that local coffee growing communities of the foothills of the Rwenzori have hosted travellers. You will be welcomed by the Konjo people and given a glimpse into their world while they harvest ethically sourced coffee.

The trip has been developed in collaboration with Perthshire’s Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters and you will be staying in safari style tents while learning more from their experts. The co-founder of Glen Lyon will be accompanying the first trip as a coffee expert.
Insight into cultures, landscapes and wildlife
Travelling by boats and vehicles, this trip is not planned to be trek-heavy. Nomadic Skies trains local and indigenous guides and contributes to development in these areas including education, water and sanitation, and indigenous people’s rights. They therefore aim to offer ‘travel with purpose’ – where their journeys contribute to areas that are remote, have few economic opportunities and where rural migration and loss of culture pose significant challenges.

The Ugandan adventure offers the opportunity to explore the crafts, spiritual beliefs and agriculture of the Kiga (mountain) people and Konjo (Rwenzori) people. Gain a deep insight into the people, cultures, landscapes and wildlife in one of the most beautiful areas of equatorial Africa.
