Murrayshall
This stunning countryside retreat of a hotel is about to get even better, with luxury holiday pods and a spa and leisure club to add to the extensive facilities

Described as Perthshire’s best kept secret this boutique country house, Murrayshall estate and golf club offers so much to see and do for you to stay, play and unwind with a perfect blend of luxury and casual comfort.

On the doorstep

Locals really are spoiled having Murrayshall on their doorstep. Just 10-minutes from the centre of Perth this gem of a country house and its 350 acre grounds offer a perfect place to treat yourself or enjoy a family day out.

Lying just over an hour from Edinburgh and less than an hour and a half from Glasgow, it makes the perfect distance for a getaway weekend or staycation and offers something for everyone whether you want to do a lot or very little

We took a look at some of the highlights of staying here and future plans to add to the extensive amenities.

Food and drink

Eolas (Gaelic for experience) is Murrayshall’s fine dining restaurant, which has recently retained its double AA rosette. Under the same chef for several years this offers mouthwatering options for any foodie, with menus that celebrate local produce at its best.

You could indulge yourself with the tasting menu at £75 per head, or opt for a classic Sunday lunch at £28 for two courses or £34 for three, or book a delightful lunch or dinner with friends or family. Eolas has a claim to fame with an all-female staff, including Somelier Sarah, formerly of the Three Chimneys on Skye.

The restaurant makes the most of the panoramic views across the Perth skyline.

Murrayshall also boasts the Cairns dining room for bistro-style meals and, thanks to a Sri Lankan chef, regular mouth-watering curry nights.

The Barossa bar is an intimate and charming bar which has all the beers, spirits, wines and cocktails you’d expect – after-dinner drams here will be no problem, the only issue is how are you going to decide which one?

And when the weather is good you can take your dining and drinking al fresco in the courtyard.

On the greens

With two championship courses to play, and a quieter-than-average membership you can enjoy a leisurely game here most of the year round. New to golf? No problem! The super-friendly in-house former pro Robin is on hand to help you get into the swing of it, if you want to book a golf lesson or two.

The five groundsmen keep the course in tip-top condition too and there are stay and play holidays available to combine an enjoyable break with some practice on the courses.

Out and about

With 350 acres of countryside and woodland to explore you need never go off the estate. Careful estate management has encouraged a range of wildlife to make this their home so don’t be surprised to see deer wandering through the grounds as you explore.

Love the races? Murrayshall is a great place to stay and offers special race stays, such as for ladies day, with transport to and from the hotel to the racecourse and brunch.

Stay in comfort

There are forty luxurious rooms to choose from at Murrayshall, including dog-friendly bedrooms and family rooms. There are always seasonal room and stay offers, so it’s worth checking the website or social media regularly or asking when you book – booking direct is always the best value! Currently the short and sweet stay offers extra space, extra amenities and free Champagne when you book one of the suite rooms and you’ll save 30% off the regular price, including a full Scottish breakfast.

Bring the dog!

Max the estate dog welcomes friends to his gorgeous home! Your family faithful will be welcome here. The £25 you’ll pay for them to stay will all go towards making them super welcome with doggy treats just for them, their own bed and even a stick library for that all-important pooch pastime!

New holiday pods and spa to come

From April 2025 you will be able to pre-book any of 22 luxury holiday pods which are a brand new addition to Murrayshall. These luxury pods are one-bedroom pods where you can enjoy all the usual en-suite facilities of a hotel room but in a little space of your own. You can make a cuppa, or chill a bottle of something nice in the fridge to enjoy later, but still make the most of the fabulous food and drink options and experiences at the hotel.

And planning permission has now been granted for Murrayshall to create a spa and leisure centre which should open in summer 2026 and will include 25 luxury holiday cottages. This will expand the current spa treatments available currently at the Gate Lodge

Activities

As well as the golf and the fabulous grounds Murrayshall also offers quad biking, archery and axe throwing for those who like to enjoy a bit of fun physical activity on their break.

The hotel is the perfect size and gorgeous location for a wedding setting, and staff here are happy to discuss weddings or any special occasion you may wish to host here. And with plenty of parking, meeting rooms and space, it’s a popular choice for corporate events and meetings too.
