Mental health charity: Donations to Health in Mind mental health services help support your community

Local mental health charity Health in Mind knows that communities already hold the seeds of a world where everyone has the support they need to thrive. You already know that support comes from the people around you, and change comes when you’ve got the trust, safety and nourishment to grow.
“We aren’t asking you to care – we know you already do. But by supporting our work, you help more people grow and flourish,” they said.
“Together, we’re working for a service where everyone can access the support they need, in the way that works best for them. There is no one-size-fits-all solution – that’s why we work locally, with individuals and their local communities, to help nurture growth, resilience and lasting positive change.”
It takes strength and resilience just to survive through times when everything feels hopeless and dark, but your support helps reach out to people struggling. Nurture hope this spring by donating to community-led support for those who need it most.
How far would your money go?
At a time when 1 in 4 people seeking mental health treatment in Midlothian are waiting over 6 months to be seen, and where many services are facing major funding cuts, your support couldn’t be more important.
Every penny counts and all the money stays in Scotland to help the specific needs of people here.
- £15 could help someone build local supports in their community
- £45 could shine the light of one-to-one support for someone for one session
- £100 could grow the skills of a peer volunteer, sharing hope for 3 months
One regular giver said: “I’ve been donating every month to Health in Mind for 6 years, and I would encourage anyone else who has a regular income with a bit of give to do the same. I see all the great work they do and I think ‘I helped that’ even in just a very small way … it’s just wonderful to know my contributions are helping someone like me get to a stronger place.”

About Health in Mind
Health in Mind has been promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland since 1982 (it was founded as the Edinburgh Association for Mental Health). It does this through a wide range of services to support people and enable them to make a positive difference in their lives.
“Our focus is on helping people develop the tools and stability to create lasting positive change, whether through counselling, community-based peer support, and resources like our information websites. We believe that everybody should have access to mental health support where, when, and how they need it, and that it’s especially vital that people can access support outside of active crisis,” they say.
Over the past 40+ years, Health in Mind has worked to support some of the most excluded and vulnerable in society, including male survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness, and people dealing with addiction. They have been pivotal in helping shape the Scottish Government’s Trauma Informed Practise framework, and currently deliver specialist support on behalf of the Government to people who experienced specific abuse and traumas through the Scottish care system.
Working across Midlothian
With a base in Hardengreen, Health in Mind offers multiple kinds of peer support, so that people can connect with others further along their journey and get one-on-one advice and support. It also works closely with other local services in Midlothian to make sure people can find the support that’s right for them, including outreach in emergency housing to help connect people experiencing homelessness to support, free advice drop-ins at GP surgeries and local community spaces across Midlothian, and the online information space midspace.co.uk, a free online resource to help people find tailored support and advice in Midlothian.
They also offer support and group activities for people in recovery and coming through the justice system, free accessible counselling for hard of hearing or deaf people, and one-to-one support and arts psychotherapy for people dealing with trauma and life-altering mental health issues.
As well as delivering local support services around Midlothian, Health in Mind also offer support in Edinburgh, West Lothian and the Scottish Borders, and some national peer support networks. They pride themselves on tailoring support to the needs of the local community, and offering flexible options.
