Who needs an accessible bathroom?

We probably will all need one at some point in our lives, which is why these bathrooms make sense as a futureproof investment for your home as well as an essential requirement after illness, injury or simply getting older and less mobile.

Whether you’re finding it trickier to turn on and off the taps, get in and out of the bath, or step up into the shower, now’s the time to consider what other options are out there.

BMAS say they have a wide range of clients, from those wanting to transform a bathroom into an accessible, modern space before they need it, to those who need one urgently for themselves or a relative after a fall or stroke, whose mobility has been compromised.

The company has experience of refitting bathrooms, shower rooms, wet rooms and toilets in older, more traditional properties and new-build homes. Their experts can advise on everything from tap fittings to wall and floor coverings, bath options and shower designs.

And with showrooms located in Dobbie’s Garden Centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh, you’ll be able to see for yourself the quality and designs at first hand – and make an outing of it with a bit of shopping and refreshments in the café too!

What if my bathroom is tiny?

Size doesn’t matter when it comes to creating a fully accessible bathroom, as there are so many choices available, and BMAS’s expert surveyors can give you advice and guidance as to what will work for your space.

Whether it’s the loo under the stairs, an en-suite shower room for the master bedroom, or creating a family bathroom fit for everyone from toddlers to grandma.

And if you’re looking for a traditional-style bathroom suite or an ultra-modern design, BMAS carry a wide range of stock for toilets, baths, sinks and showers as well as tiling, wall boards, fixtures and fittings – and with no compromise on design or quality.

And, did you know that accessible bathroom fittings are subject to zero per cent VAT too?

Where do I start?

The first thing to do is arrange to see one of BMAS’s friendly advisors. You could speak to them on the phone, visit them in the showroom at either Edinburgh or Glasgow or ask for one of their friendly advisors to come and see you or your relative at home.

Home visits are absolutely free. Their expert advisors will spend time getting to understand your needs, your taste and your budget so they know what you’re looking to achieve. They will be able to bring brochures and samples with them too – and they’ll have up-to-date knowledge of everything that’s available, not just what you might see on the website. Then they’ll survey the space and create a no-obligation free bathroom design and a quote.

You may then want to visit the showroom for yourselves – just to see some of the room settings and get a feel for how they look in real life. And if you decide to progress, the fitting teams can start work within a few weeks. And if you’re worried about the bathroom being out of action, most refits started on Monday are finished by Friday of the same week.

All BMAS’s work is guaranteed for a year, so if any problems should arise they will be back to fix them. And many of the fixtures and fittings will carry their own manufacturers’ guarantees too.

Caring for others

BMAS is a community-based company which reaches out to help others. This year it sponsored a dementia-friendly concert given by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and raises money every year for Macmillan cancer charity through raffles and coffee mornings in the showrooms.
