Encouragingly, Scots are taking no chances as 83 per cent buy travel insurance when going on holiday, according to Tesco Insurance.

To help travellers protect themselves with unlimited emergency medical cover, 24/7 digital access to a GP while abroad and holiday cancellation cover, Tesco Travel Insurance’s Annual Multi Trip policy will be available to purchase at a 20 per cent discount until 31 January to customers with a Clubcard.

Alex Cross, chief customer officer at Tesco Insurance, said: “Going on holiday is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable time. The last thing you want to have to worry about is losing or having an item stolen, with the prospect of not being able to replace it only adding to the stress.

“We’re approaching a key time of year for holiday bookings as people battle the post Christmas and winter blues. Although it’s positive to see an increase in people wanting to protect themselves, there’s still many out there who are not. It’s vital travellers don’t overlook the value of having some form of travel insurance in place. This could offer you protection before you travel as well as on your trip.
