Scotland striker Oli McBurnie a doubt for Euro 2020 after suffering broken foot

Oli McBurnie has been dealt a devastating blow in his hopes of making Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad after it was revealed the Sheffield United striker has suffered a broken foot.

The English Premier League club announced on Thursday afternoon the 24-year-old suffered a stress fracture on his fifth metatarsal in the recent 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and is out for the rest of the domestic season.

He’ll be in a race against time to recover and be fit enough to compete at the Euros. This type of injury takes at least six weeks to heal but players can have discomfort and swelling for weeks afterwards. Scotland’s opening match against Czech Republic is just under two months away.

Blades interim boss Paul Heckinbottom said at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon: "Oli is out for the season. He's got a stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal so we've lost two forwards, which isn't positive.”
