What’s On In Scotland: Five things to do tonight

Our daily briefing gives you the run-down on the most exciting cultural events going on in Scotland this evening, including a special Christmas show by Andy Williams in Edinburgh and a Nick Nairn cook school session in Aberdeen

ART: BILLY CONNOLLY EXHIBITION

The Big Yin may not be as famous for his paintings as he is for his jokes, but his artwork is well worth a look at Glasgow’s People’s Palace and Winter Gardens.

The exhibition includes objects from the Glasgow Museums collection, including Connolly’s famous guitar made from a White Horse whisky box. It‘s the only place outside of London where you’ll be able to see Connolly’s artistic works.

CONCERT: THE ANDY WILLIAMS CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR STARRING THE OSMONDS

The award-winning production makes its way to Scotland to perform family classics such as Love Me For a Reason and Down By the Lazy River. In addition to music from the brothers, Christmas classics including Silent Night, Last Christmas and music from Slade and Mud will be performed.

The Andy Williams Singers and Dancers support the brothers, while Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket also makes a guest appearance.

CINEMA: IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

Dundee’s Contemporary Arts Cinema plays host to a screening of a 1946 Christmas classic. The Frank Capra-directed film is displayed in all its glory at the theatre from 6pm tonight, reciting the well-known tale of character George Bailey’s guardian angel preventing his suicide by showing him the results of his good deeds across his hometown of Bedford Falls on Christmas Eve.

COOKING: NICK NAIRN COOK SCHOOL

Just one of two Nick Nairn cook schools in the country, the Aberdeen branch is hosting a lesson in creating perfect peppered beef fillet strips with whisky sauce and mustard mash.

The Quick Cook session teaches small groups to make selected dishes in just two hours. Chefs can enjoy their creation with a glass of wine at the end and mingle with other like-minded foodies.

CONCERT: SINATRA CENTENARY

The 100th birthday of the original American idol Frank Sinatra will be marked at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall at 7.30pm this evening. Classics such as Luck be a Lady, Come Fly with Me and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town will accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra.

The Sinatra Centenary is part of the Royal Concert Hall’s Christmas Festival celebrations, which will include a special Hogmanay celebration with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the end of the month.
