What’s On In Scotland: Five things to do tonight

EXHIBITION: UNBUILT MACKINTOSH

Celebrating the distinctive style of Glasgow’s very own Charles Rennie Mackintosh, this Lighthouse-hosted exhibition instead examines some of the architect’s greatest unbuilt visions. The free-to-enter exhibition features scale models built by Scottish firm Ozturk, which adhere faithfully to key Mackintosh characteristics such as geometric shapes, extreme attention to detail and plain, unadorned finishings.

MUSICAL: PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT

Based on the movie of the same name, the world-famous musical sees Jason Donovan performing as one of three friends who tour in an old bus while looking for love and friendship. Cheesy, glitzy and littered with old-school classics such as I Will Survive and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

CONCERT: BAY CITY ROLLERS

Edinburgh’s most famous boy band continue a run of gigs at the Barrowland tonight. Scotsman music critic Fiona Shepherd wrote of a recent Bay City Rollers gig: ”The fans’ extraordinary display of scarves, shirts, collars, cuffs plus - new for the season - tartan Stetsons, all contributed to an atmosphere as dedicated and celebratory as there has ever been at Barrowland on this first night of the Rollers comeback.”

Three-fifths of the original line-up will appear at Glasgow’s Barrowland tonight. Demand for their comeback has been strong, with several official ticket retails selling their allocation before the event.

THEATRE: SLEEPING BETTY

The Tron’s festive panto, Sleeping Better, centres around Princess Betty, a flatulent hamster and a scorned evil fairy out to ruin the princess’s 16th birthday. Written by David Ireland and directed and designed by Kenny Miller, the performance also has an afternoon showing at 2.30pm if the 7.30pm performance isn’t suitable for you or your children.

FILM: SCROOGE

Aberdeen’s only independent cinema, the Belmont Filmhouse, will screen 1951 Christmas classic Scrooge at 8.45pm tonight. Alastair Sim puts in an earnest performance as the grumpy bah-humbug Ebeneezer Scrooge, whose irritable ways are set to be reversed after a spiritual intervention by his old partner on Christmas Eve. The Brian Desmond Hurst-directed picture will be shown for one night only.
