Stuart McCall’s hunt for Motherwell winger goes on

The Fir Park club have been linked with a loan bid for the 20-year-old Celtic playmaker, but McCall is desperate to find a pacy wideman to balance off his team and admits that Scotland Under-21 international McGeouch’s preference for playing through the middle means a switch is unlikely.

He said: “Dylan is a player that I’m led to believe Celtic will look, possibly, to loan out. He is a very good player but, again, I’m led to believe probably does not want to play out-and-out right wing and that it is not his best position. That is the place in the team that we are really looking for so, as much as I rate him, I don’t want to bring anyone to the club for a position that they are not really keen on.”

McCall has been thwarted in a number of attempts so far this summer to fill the void on the right side of his midfield left after Jamaican international Chris Humphrey departed for Preston. However, with more than a week left until the transfer window shuts, he is not panicking yet.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s visit of Scottish Premiership newcomers Partick Thistle, McCall added: “Bringing in a wide player is proving difficult. We have had five or six players in over the last two months on trial, who, for whatever reason, have not really been what we are after.”

One wide man Motherwell let go a while back is Partick winger Steven Lawless, who has a point to prove on his return to Fir Park today.

Lawless scored on his only start for Motherwell, a 4-0 League Cup win at Clyde in August 2011.

“I kind of have a point to prove but not in a bad way,” said Lawless. “I am just really looking forward to playing at Fir Park in the top flight, hopefully get a goal or two and get the three points.”
