Rangers’ trip to Sheffield ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Owls last night.

Scorer: Sheffield Wednesday - Michail Antonio 12

Michail Antonio did the damage when his 12th-minute strike was the only goal of an entertaining encounter where an estimated 5,000 Rangers fans travelled down for the game.

Rangers keeper Scott Gallacher did well to deny Jermaine Johnson as Wednesday took control, and they scored from their next attack. Mattock swung over a corner that landed nicely at the back post for Antonio to prod home. Rangers struggled to make any real headway, with Owls keeper Chris Kirkland left with little to do before he was withdrawn for Adam Davies to make his Wednesday debut.

Both Johnson and Antonio had shots saved by Gallacher as the Owls strove for a second goal though the Gers did manage to break forward through Nicky Law on the hour but his chance was spurned. Rangers could and should have levelled on 69 minutes. Kyle McAusland fired a shot in that Davies could only parry but the onrushing Mohsni somehow spooned the ball over.
