Scotland’s one-club men, No 11: John Hansen (Partick)
The elder Hansen, who played at centre half and right back, was capped twice by Scotland in 1971-72, against Belgium and Yugoslavia. It was for his unstinting career with the Maryhill club, though, that he achieved the most renown. Hansen was part of the team that stunned Celtic, and the nation, with a 4-1 win in the 1971 Scottish League Cup Final, a dramatic victory which gave Thistle only the second cup win since their Scottish Cup triumph of 1921. Lou Macari said to him before the game “At least you’ll be going home with a runners-up medal” but in the end Thistle destroyed the mighty Celtic. Between 1967 and 1978 Hansen played 213 league matches for Thistle before injury forced him to retire.
