Scotland U-19 1-1 Iceland U-19: Kidd denied winner

The woodwork denied Scotland’s Under-19 side a win over Iceland in their friendly last night when Lewis Kidd’s last- minute effort came back off a post, with Ricky Sbragia’s side having to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The Scots were behind at the interval, but Dundee United kid Ryan Gauld scored a fine equaliser to cancel out Oliver Sigurjonsson’s opener.

Fraser Aird, Denny Johnstone and John Souttar had chances before Iceland took the lead midway through the first half. Their first attempt on goal had a hint of good fortune about it as Sigurjonsson’s free-kick flashed past Liam Kelly with the aid of a deflection.

The equaliser came 12 minutes after the break after Mark O’Hara had been brought down as he charged forward 25 yards from goal. Gauld, who scored his first senior goal last week from a couple of yards out against Dumbarton in the League Cup, showed his prowess from distance as he curled home the resultant free-kick.

Aird sent an effort wide with the Scots missing the chance to win when Frederik Schram turned Kidd’s his shot on to a post.
