Scots teenager dies in Ibiza after taking ‘taking ecstasy’

Tributes were paid to Danielle McCallum, 18, from Greenock, Inverclyde, who died from heart failure after holidaying in Ibiza with friends. Ms McCallum took ill on Tuesday morning and later died in Can Misses Hospital. A Spanish Civil Guard spokesman said “all indications” were that the teenager died from as a result of a drugs overdose.

Nicola Sturgeon wields axe on Tory plans to scrap Human Rights Act

The First Minister said it was “inconceivable” that Holyrood would consent to Conservative plans to scrap the legislation and that its repeal would be a “monumental mistake” and lower the UK’s standing in the eyes of the rest of the world. The Conservative UK government has pledged to replace the act with a British Bill of Rights.

Aberdeen to take in ‘about 100’ refugees coming to Scotland

Aberdeen City Council leader Jenny Laing said the city looked able to accept a 5 per cent share of the estimated 2,000 people expected to come to Scotland. Ms Laing said her hope was to integrate refugees in the city “in a way that reflects the kind-hearted nature of Aberdonians.”

Ridley Scott plans ‘up to four’ Prometheus films

Director Ridley Scott has said he plans to make up to four more Prometheus films, which will connect the space saga to Alien. The critical reception to Prometheus, partly shot in Scotland and released in 2012, was mixed. The second Prometheus film is out in 2017.
