Edinburgh ‘turd hotel’ ridiculed by The List

Edinburgh’s controversial new £850 million ‘Ribbon Hotel’ plan has been ridiculed as one of Scotland’s biggest flops, according to The List. The magazine’s “Not 100” list - a counterpoint to its famous “Hot 100” checklist of Scotland’s biggest and best cultural figures - said: “We’re not here to knock Jestico + Whiles’ plan for the new hotel which will feature prominently in Edinburgh’s plan to replace the St James Centre. After all, architecture depends on taste and perspective, like any art. But did nobody look at the gold swirl which is intended to make its outer edge look like an uncoiled printer ribbon and think ‘doesn’t that look like something else?’”

David Cameron caught making PMQs gaffe

David Cameron was caught complaining about the increasing length of PMQs sessions in an unguarded moment in the House of Commons.

A microphone recorded him telling Speaker John Bercow that “it’s getting longer and longer.” PMQs is usually a 30-minute slot, but the latest session ran to 38 minutes.

Observers have noted that David Cameron has been thrown by Jeremy Corbyn’s tactic of putting questions from the public to the Prime Minister.

HMRC wins appeal on Rangers ‘big tax’ case

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has won its second appeal over the so-called “big tax case” involving payments to former Rangers employees.

Judges in the Inner House of the Court of Session allowed an appeal by the Advocate General for Scotland, acting on behalf of HMRC, over the use of the now-outlawed employee benefit trusts during the first decade of the century by companies run by Sir David Murray, including the now-liquidated football club Rangers.

I’m a feminist, claims Dapper Laughs

Controversial comedian Dapper Laughs told Caroline Criado-Perez that he considers himself a feminist.

The revelation came as a shock to many observers after he was censured last year for making a rape joke and criticised for misoginy, resulting in the cancellation of his ITV2 show On The Pull and a public apology from Daniel O’Reilly – appearing out of character – on Newsnight. Responding to a question on his views on feminism on On Demand News, he said: “Of course, equal rights for men and women. If you asked me if I consider myself a feminist. I’d say yeah.”

UK suspends flights to Sharm El-Sheikh over bomb fears

Flights from Sharm el-Sheikh to the UK are being suspended tonight amid fears that a Russian plane was brought down by a bomb, Downing Street has announced.

The “precautionary” move is to allow time for a specialist British team to assess security arrangements in the Egyptian resort.
