Scotland to face Australia at Murrayfield

SCOTLAND will have the chance for revenge for their World Cup quarter-final defeat when they face Australia at Murrayfield next year.

The Wallabies are touring Europe next autumn and are due to play a Test in Edinburgh on 12 November.

The Scots suffered a devastating 35-34 loss to Australia in the last eight at Twickenham last month, having led going into the final seconds.

The Aussies went on to reach the final where they lost to New Zealand.

Now Australia will head to Europe on tour in November 2016 in search of their first grand slam since 1984.

The Wallabies have announced a five-Test, seven-match tour which will begin on 5 November against Wales in Cardiff.

They will then head to Scotland, France, Ireland and England hoping to emulate Alan Jones’ 1984 squad, the last Australian side to beat the four home nations on the same tour.

Australia have attempted to win a grand slam nine times previously, but only achieved it the once.

Their last attempt came in 2013, when they opened with a loss to England before recording wins over Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Australian Rugby Union chief executive Bill Pulver said: “The Grand Slam is one of the rarest achievements in the game and has been a notoriously difficult one for the Wallabies over time with only one successful attempt out of nine.

“The 1984 team etched their names into Australian Rugby folklore and as the years have passed their achievement has become more legendary. It is a great opportunity for the 2016 Qantas Wallabies to create their own slice of history.”

The five Tests will take place on consecutive Saturdays, with the Wales clash followed by the meeting with Scotland, then France in Paris on the 19th, and Ireland in Dublin on the 26th. The final Test will be against England at Twickenham on 3 December, with two other mid-week tour matches still to be confirmed.

The newly-announced tour completes a busy calendar for Australia, who will host England for three Tests in June before the Rugby Championship will see matches home and away against New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina.

The Wallabies and All Blacks will square off three times for the Bledisloe Cup, with a third match to be played in Auckland on 22 October, just two weeks before the match against Wales.
