­Sbragia hopes pain can ‘be used to punish England’

SCOTLAND manager Ricky ­Sbragia is hoping his kids will take out their “embarrassment” at losing to nine-man ­Georgia on England tonight.

The Scots face the Auld Enemy in the final game of the Elite Euro Round in Belgium, knowing they are already out after a dreadful 3-1 loss to the Georgians, despite having had a ­two-man advantage for the last 30 minutes of the game.

Sbragia will make wholescale changes for the Westerlo clash, but has revealed that he had to give a pep talk to raise spirits.

He said: “We have to do ­better than we did against Georgia. I spoke to them on Tuesday morning and said from 16 games together that’s the only one they’ve let me down, in the sense we didn’t compete.

“It’s not a disaster. We have the game against England and let’s hope we can show a bit of pride. They’re flat and disappointed. There’s an embarrassment there and they don’t need constantly reminded. They have dinner with the other teams and know they haven’t qualified but that’s football.”

England need to inflict a heavy defeat on the young Scots and hope Georgia slip up against hosts Belgium if they are to qualify for the Finals in Lithuania.

And because of this, Sbragia is expecting a tough test.

He said: “England are good. They’re drilled, well organised and play narrowly. They press you high up the park. They’re no different to what we expected.They’ve lost 14 players. A lot of them went with the under-20s and under-21s, so they’ve got great depth of talent. That’s one thing we don’t have.”

Scotland’s Chelsea defender Alex Davey added: “Scotland against England is always a big one at whatever level and you don’t want them to have one over you. It’s been drummed into me how important this game is. You don’t want to get battered by England.”
