Davies, who began his playing career with Rangers, is reported to have been contacted about replacing McCoist and is said to be interested.

The former Derby and Motherwell manager, who has been out of football management since he left Nottingham Forest in March, could face competition from the likes of Terry Butcher and Stuart McCall who have also been linked with the position.
