And Novo said that the news was relayed to him by wantaway manager Kenny McDowall, who told him to stay away from the club at the end of a training session.

Now the Spanish forward, who is set to play for American side Carolina Railhawks, hsa branded the board cowards for their behaviour.

Novo told the Scottish Sun: “I’ve been training with the team since around November time but today it stopped. Kenny came to me after the session and said I’d been great to have at the club but he’s been told by the board - the Easdales and Llambias - that I cannot come and train anymore. For me, they are what I call s****bags. They’ve not been professional. They know they can get me on the phone and tell me personally.

“They shouldn’t be trying to make a confrontation between the manager and me. Kenny said it had nothing to do with him and I know that’s true because he’s a great person and a great coach.”

In remarks made to the Daily Record, Novo also accused the board of showing disrespect to McDowall, former manager Ally McCoist and club coach Ian Durrant, who the board demoted from the senior coaching staff.

He said: “Professional directors do not act in this way and that shows you how bad this Rangers board is.”

Novo announced his support for Rangers First alongside another former player Richard Gough earlier this month - and he believes his alliance with the group is behind the board’s decision to exile him.
