More than 1000 people have added their name to the petition, which calls on the game’s developer, EA Sports, to include Rangers in an updated version of the game.

The petition reads: “Petitioning EA Sports - Rethink of Rangers not being included in FIFA 16.

“Rangers were not included in the final list of teams for FIFA 16, we would like to know why?

“And to have them included in an updated version.”

Some fans have left comments on the petition with one writing: “I find it a disgrace that the worlds most successful football club has not been included in a game that it should be. Glasgow Rangers has a proud history and a very promising future and I strongly feel EA sports should reconsider.”

Another supporter has added: “I want to play with Rangers in my career mode.”

FIFA 16 only features top flight clubs, meaning the likes of Hibernian and St Mirren will also be omitted from the game.

Rangers have previously been included in the ‘rest of the world’ section alongside the likes of Galatasaray, Shakhtar Donetsk and AEK Athens in previous editions of the game.

However, EA have defended the exclusion, insisting the move was made after a licensing agreement was not reached with the club.

An EA Spokesman said: “We can confirm that we did not reach a licensing agreement with Rangers and they are not in FIFA 16.

“However, newly promoted Hearts will feature in the game with the other 11 authentic clubs from the Scottish Premiership.”
