Rangers fans to avoid Stan Collymore racism rap

RANGERS supporters are expected to be formally accused of sectarian singing during Friday’s match against Raith Rovers as Neil Doncaster, the SPFL chief, said that the club’s visiting support was tarnishing the reputation of the Scottish game.

Reports suggested that Collymore, the former Liverpool striker and BT Sport pundit, was referred to by Rangers fans as a “black F****** b******” at Stark’s Park – but the claims are not expected to make their way onto the match delegate’s report into the match.

Doncaster said: “We hope to have sight of the match delegate report from Friday night’s Raith Rovers v Rangers SPFL Championship match within the next 24 to 48 hours.”

“It remains the SPFL’s position that if it can be established that clubs have done everything required in overall management of the event pre-match, during the game and post-match then they have no case to answer.

“But setting that aside, the vast majority of decent fans will share a strong degree of anger and despair that the good name of Scottish football is once again being dragged through the mud by the distasteful, shameful and selfish actions of a mindless minority who seem hell bent on indulging in outdated and offensive behaviour.

“I know that clubs, players and many others across the game share this frustration.”

Collymore has been involved in a war of words on Twitter with Rangers fans after comparing Chelsea fans accused or racism on the Paris Metro with Ibrox supporters. The former England international, who BT Sport pulled from their coverage of the game at Stark’s Park, has also condemned fans’ behavious over sectarian singing at other games, and led a petition calling for a boycott of the club over the issue last week.
