Rangers fan groups announce season ticket boycott

The Blue Order say they will buy tickets on a game-by-game basis however the Union Bears say they will vacate their current block in the Broamloan Stand.

Both groups are part of the Union of Fans who have called on supporters to withold season ticket money and instead place it in a trust.

The trust has been set up by former Rangers director Dave King and Richard Gough, the captain of the nine-in-a-row team. King and Gough have called for disgruntled fans to withhold season-ticket revenue from the club until such time as the board hands over security of Ibrox Stadium and the club’s training complex.

Reports suggest that the club has so far sold only 2,000 books for 2014/15.

A Union Bears spokesman said: “It has not been an easy decision to come to and one we haven’t taken lightly. If the situation changes we will update everyone. But as things stand the group won’t be renewing and won’t be back in BF1 next season.”

A Blue Order spokesman added: “We strongly urge Rangers FC to engage openly with concerned supporters and potential investors to safeguard the club’s future.”

The League One champions have raised £70 million since May 2012 but had just £3.5million left by December 2013.

In his financial review, Graham Wallace said the club now plan to raise £30 million over the next three years but warned supporters that plans to withhold season-ticket cash threaten the club.

Wallace’s report said: “Should the club suffer a substantial decrease in season ticket income in the next two months, then it would be unable to trade in the short term without seeking additional external funding as previously disclosed in the RIFC December 2013 interim results.”

The report reveals that Rangers fans purchasing season tickets will be unable to do so using credit or debit cards, after card processing firms reportedly demanded security over Ibrox Stadium in exchange for processing the sales.
