A document sent to the Rangers board on July 22 claims that Ahmad is owed bonuses and legal costs from the club, with former chief executive Charles Green apparently ready to give his backing to Ahmad’s claim.

The letter represents another blow to Rangers, whose finances have dwindled to just £10 million despite a stock market flotation that raised £22 million only eight months ago.

The Daily Record report that Ahmad would settle for £500,000 plus legal fees in order to avoid entering formal court proceedings.

Ahmad left his £300,000 a year job as commercial director at Ibrox in April after allegedly leaking confidential information on a fans’ forum, and criticising Ally McCoist and Walter Smith under an online psuedonym.

Ahmad claims that Green will back his claim to a £500,000 bonus he says was agreed by Green, as well as five per cent of a variety of commercial deals negotiatied during his 12-month tenure at Ibrox.

Discussions between Ahmad and the club board are ongoing as both parties bid to end the dispute, although the threat of legal action has not been withdrawn by Ahmad.

Rangers financial director Brian Stockbridge told the Record: “We are aware of [the letter] but it is without legal merit and any action will be robuistly defended on behalf of the club and its fans.”
