Rangers clash against Forfar postponed

RANGERS have postponed next week’s League One fixture against Forfar after four of their players were called up for international duty.

Ally McCoist’s team were due to host the Loons at Ibrox on Saturday, 16 November, but the game has now been called off with just ten days’ notice after the Glasgow giants invoked Scottish Professional Football League rule G7.

Arnold Peralta has been selected for Honduras to play in a friendly against World Cup hosts Brazil in the neutral venue of the Sun Life Stadium of Miami.

Closer to home, Lee Wallace is included in the Scotland squad for the double-header against the United States and Norway while Fraser Aird is away with Scotland’s Under-19s.

Lewis Macleod will also feature for Scotland’s Under-21 side, so Rangers have taken up their right to have the game postponed.

Rule G7 states: “A club shall be entitled to apply to the board for the postponement of any official match where three or more of its players who would otherwise have participated in such match are unavailable through international selection and, following receipt of such an application, the board may postpone and rearrange the relevant official match.”

A statement on the Rangers website acknowledged that some supporters would be unhappy at the late call-off. It read: “The club appreciates supporters may be unhappy with the decision but it was taken in good faith by the football department.

“We hope to reschedule the game for Tuesday, 3 December or Wednesday, 4 December, but this will only be confirmed once the date for our Scottish Cup tie against Falkirk is confirmed – which is scheduled for the weekend of the 30 November.”
