Rangers and Motherwell embroiled in ticket row

A deal was reportedly struck that would have seen Motherwell given 2,000 briefs for the Ibrox leg, with Gers fans getting more than 4,800 tickets for the return tie at Fir Park.

It was widely expected that Rangers fans would be given the whole of Fir Park’s South Stand, traditionally reserved for visiting supporters.

However, a decision by Rangers to offer Motherwell 950 tickets - the same allocation given to Hibernian fans in the semi-final play-off - after selling tickets to their own fans following the 2-1 aggregate win over Hibs led to Fir Park officials revising their decision to allow nearly 5,000 Rangers fans to attend the game.

A Motherwell statement read: “After discussions between both clubs, Motherwell fans have been allocated 950 tickets for Ibrox for Thursday night’s game, priced at £5.

“For the second leg, Rangers have been allocated 1,500 tickets for the Maxim Office Park South Stand.”

Hibernian went down a similar route for the Easter Road leg of the play-off semi-final, limiting Rangers to 1,500 tickets for the South Stand.

The rest of the stand remained empty, leading to Rangers fans hitting out at Hibs for locking out nearly 2,500 fans.
