Rangers and Craig Whyte ‘could fight for a decade’

The former Rangers owner is threatening to take the club to court over his claim that he still has rights over Ibrox assets.

An internal investigation conducted by law firm Pinsent Mason absolved Green of any links to Whyte during the takeover of the club last summer, but Green said that the report’s findings may not be sufficient for the club to shake off the “delusional” Whyte.

Charles Green said: “We might be fighting Whyte for the next 10 years, it’s mind blowing. But the reality is Rangers is secure and it’s moving forward.

“I have nothing to be guilty of. What I did over a period of 12 months at Rangers was something I’m proud of.

“I left because the club needed to move forward.

“There were almost daily articles in the press about Whyte and Rangers were never going to be able to move forward until that spectre had gone.

“As we have seen from this report by Pinsents everything is clear now apart from one man who is completely delusional, Mr Whyte.

“The authorities are investigating Mr Whyte for other misdemeanours and it’s something that has to be brought to an end otherwise this club is going to be hampered fighting spurious claims for the next God knows how long.

“I’m just disappointed I couldn’t stay to finish what I started because I had some great plans for the club and they are now all in ashes.”

Green stepped down from his position as chief executive of Rangers in April following claims he had covertly operated in conjuction with discredited former chairman and owner Craig Whyte when he fronted the consortium which bought the business and assets of Rangers from administrators Duff & Phelps for £5.5 million in May last year.

The independent inquiry found no evidence that ex-owner Craig Whyte invested in the current Ibrox set-up, and found he had no involvement in the Charles Green-led consortium’s acquisition of Rangers’ business and assets last year.
