Polish No 1 Cierzniak is out of contract at the end of this month and United manager Jackie McNamara has revealed the 32-year-old is looking at the possibility of embracing a new challenge away from Scotland.

Cierzniak joined United in the summer of 2012 and, since then, has made 108 appearances between the sticks for the Tayside club. But, while Cierzniak looks to be heading for pastures new, defender Dillon and midfielder Butcher are closing in on new deals.

McNamara said: “Rado wants to assess all his options. His contract expires at the end of the season and I think he has ambitions to play in England. We will say what happens. He’s not said whether he’s leaving or has got something yet. He will just focus on the next three games and then take it from there.

“We have made offers to Sean Dillon and Calum Butcher, so we’re hoping to get them over the line. David Southern is dealing with it at the moment, so, hopefully, we’ll have some news soon. I want them to stay and we’re trying to get other players to extend their deals too.

“We are looking at new players for next season. We’ve got targets for the summer, but nothing concrete yet.”

United head for Tommy Wright’s St Johnstone in tomorrow’s Tayside derby, but will be without Australian stopper Ryan McGowan, who has been ruled out until next season. McNamara said: “Ryan has suffered a tear to his thigh. It’s nothing major, but will keep him out for two or three weeks, so his season is probably finished.”

The Taysiders are bidding to bounce back from their 2-1 league defeat at Inverness earlier this week as they refuse to give up hope of landing third place and a place in Europe.

McNamara said: “It’s a big game for both teams this weekend. It won’t be easy because St Johnstone have been a bit of a bogey team for us. They are experienced. They have a good work ethic and sometimes it just happens like that.

“We need to be streetwise against them because they defend well as a team and we’ve found it hard to crack them. We beat them 4-0 in one game last season, but Tommy has them well organised and disciplined.

“The pitch isn’t the best. It’s bobbly and not conducive to a lot of good football. So, that’s something we have to cope with, we have to adapt to the conditions. Against Inverness, we didn’t do that as well as we could have. This weekend we have to play to the conditions better.

“It will be a physical game and we will have to match them for that.”
