Poll: Seven in ten Scots oppose Syria bombing

A new poll has found significant differences in attitudes among Scottish and English voters on the issue of air strikes on Syria.

According to new online poling sites, VoteScotland and VoteEngland, a huge majority of Scottish voters (72 per cent) are against air strikes in Syria.

Over 2,300 Scots voted in the poll, which will end befire the Commons vote later today.

In England the bulk of respondents were in favour of air strikes, with 54 per cent believing the that an escalation of military action is needed to quell the rise of IS terrorist operations.

 

Only registered UK voters were able to participate and the polling organisations prevented people from casting a vote twice.

 

MPs are currently in the process of debating the merits of military action in Syria and Parliament will vote on the issue later today (Wednesday).


Prime Minister David Cameron believes that the UK must play a part in attacking IS at its source.
