The former Ibrox goalkeeper, who spent several years at Rangers until leaving in 2013 and now plays for Hearts, succeeded in claiming the money after providing evidence that his former employer had reneged on a contractual agreement.

Following the departure of Allan McGregor, who Alexander deputised for while both were at the club, Alexander said he was entitled to receive an increase in wages and bonuses.

Rangers are understood to have argued that McGregor did not leave the club under the terms of the pre-agreed contract with Alexander because he moved under TUPE regulations between the oldco and newco firms.

Rangers will appeal the decision.
